Monsanto has created the Roundup Ready® Cotton Performance Plus program to encourage farmers and reward them for using residual herbicides throughout the growing season. By participating in the Roundup Ready® Cotton Performance Plus program, farmers can receive rebates of up to $12.50 per acre.
Here is step by step recommendation for weed management in cotton:
1. Scout fields before and after each burndown and in-crop application.
2. Start clean with a burndown herbicide program or tillage. In Genuity™ Roundup Ready® Flex cotton this can include a preplant or preemergence application of residual herbicides such as Valor, Reflex, diuron or Cotoran with your Roundup PowerMAX application.
3. Follow the residual herbicides with an in-crop postemergence application of Dual Magnum or other labeled acetamide herbicide with your Roundup PowerMAX.
4. Use additional residual and burndown herbicides post-directed as layby treatments later in the season.
5. Always apply Roundup PowerMAX at a minimum of 22 ounces per acre when weeds are small, less than 4-6 inches.
6. Clean equipment before moving from field to field to minimize the spread of weed seed (as well as nematodes, insects and other cotton pests).
